Jamies 'Zombie brain' - Roast whole celeriac with mushrooms

For those time when the Vegetarians and Vegans want to get away from the more carnivorous types.

Has anyone made this? It looks delicious but any opinions would be good

I haven't made it, but I eat a lot of celeriac. I wouldn't put celeriac and mushrooms together, but that might be just my funny ideas about what doesn't feel like a good match!

I haven't made that recipe, I note that his instructions for cooking the celeriac might work, he thinks it take 2 hours, I've tried a couple of other recipe for oven cooking celeriac with or without a salt crust, and it has always emerged under done

I wouldn't have done, but there's a recipe in one of the New Covent Garden soup books for a celeriac and [dried] porcini soup and it is :chops: - I think I first made it mainly because I had a half celeriac hanging round to use up, I have since bought celeriac specially

I saw him make it on one of his programs and it certainly looked good. I'm considering making it for the kids

Celeriac and mushrooms worked well in my pie, the other week, but I am not sure I fancy that much celeriac in one go.

Doombar is probably the best option, Zosh...
Or perhaps a pint of Adnam`s Ghost Ship!!

I think for the fun aspect of the presentation for children it might be good and the ingredients look tasty. Otherwise, I fail to see how the butter can seep into the celeriac as he suggests and cooking anything like that whole takes ages (one of the comments suggested it might need longer than advertised). Surely you would end up with bog standard slices of celeriac which needed to be covered with the sauce to make them interesting? It would be quicker and easier just to roast slices if you weren't too bothered about zombies.

It does work EM, just make sure you really tightly wrap it in the foil. We did cut a few slits in the celeriac though
